iPhone SE has a compact design with just 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm dimension. This phone is very popular among users who like a compact phone. iPhone XR with 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm dimensions is quite bigger and thicker. But since SE has the Touch ID and smaller display, its design is considered as old fashioned by many buyers. On the other hand, iPhone XR has a modern design with a Face ID and a full display with a notch. Both the phone has Gorilla glass on the front and has an aluminium frame.

iPhone XR has a 6.1 inch Liquid Retina IPS display, while iPhone SE has only 4.7 inch Retina IPS display. Since XR has a 6.1 inch display, it has a higher resolution than that of SE, but they have exact pixel density. The difference in viewing experience with the displays of these phones is negligible.

If you want a compact and powerful phone but don’t want to spend $600/700 on it, then SE is the best choice as it is quite cheaper than iPhone XR. Though the front look of iPhone SE is a bit old fashioned, you will get excellent overall performance, photos, and videos.
